Department: SOCIOLOGY

About The Department

Sociology is the youngest and perhaps most versatile of the social sciences. The Department of Sociology at Domal Girls’ College was established in 2012. It trains students to grasp the social structures, understand the social processes, map the dynamics of social change, and make sense of individual and collective experiences in their proper social context. The department places emphasis on integrated learning based on classroom lectures, interactive tutorials, seminars, extensions lectures and coordinated multipronged internal assessment. Apart from an expanding and promising faculty, the number of enrolled students in the department has increased over the years. Presently the department has a good collection of books on sociology, which are located in the college library. The department offers general level course at undergraduate level.

Vision

  • To build up confidence among the students.
  • To create social awareness among the students.
  • To guide students so as to create interest in research pertaining to social issues to the society.

Objective

Sociology being a fundamental discipline in social sciences, it was important from the beginning to build up the department in a way that would enable students to develop matured and critical thinking. It was a challenge to the department to instil in the student’s perspectives that would enable them not only to qualify for all kinds of professions and occupations but also to do so successfully. It was also hoped that the students would be able to pursue the quest of sociological understanding not only academically but also in practical application, and this too, not from a narrow sectarian point of view but from a critical and matured point of view.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
